Potential Format/Structure of the Essays You can use the following format for the essay structure: ● In the introduction, give a brief summary of your essay, highlighting the key points and takeaways. This shouldn’t be more than 3-4 lines. Reasoning: People usually don’t have much time to read through long essays, and want the facts fast. Being able to engage readers with a few words and sentences is a highly desirable skill. ● In the next paragraph, lay out the scenario you are analyzing, with proper citation. You won’t need to cite your personal situation, but if you are talking about some economic issue, you need to provide some source (e.g. newspaper article, website link etc.). ● In the next few paragraphs, you can analyze the situation using the concepts we learned in class. If you use diagrams, make sure you have labeled the graphs properly (each graph should have a title, axes labels, curve labels). ● The last paragraph will focus on the key takeaways or insights. Here you should discuss any insights that you didn’t think about before (e.g. impact on consumers, government, producers etc.). You can also talk about predictions about what may happen in future based on your analysis, or you can make policy recommendations. ● If you cited any newspaper, article or website, a list of references should be provided at the end. Note that this will not count towards your word limit.
